the twenty years since daddy left


Theresa DiMenno

Theresa DiMenno has been a working photographer for over twenty five years. From 1978-1981, she photographed for Houston Breakthrough newspaper.

As a freelance photographer, she documented the music scene of Houston, Austin & Dallas throughout most of the eighties and early nineties, shooting for KLOL Radio Station, Billboard magazine, The Houston Post, The Houston Chronicle, Atlantic Records and Capital Records.

In 1986, Ms. DiMenno moved to Austin and photographed for The Austin Chronicle, Austin American Statesman, Rolling Stone magazine, Texas Monthly magazine and many bands and solo artists, including Johnny Cash, Ronnie Lane, Robert Plant, Alejandro Escovedo, Joe Ely and Lucinda Williams.

After relocating back to Houston, she became involved in the AIDS crisis and photographed for various AIDS organizations, including The Names Project AIDS Memorial Quilt, where her images appeared worldwide in magazines, newspapers brochures and posters. Clients included The Minute Maid Company, Wil Tel Communications, The Belmont Corp., Baylor College of Medicine, The Methodist Hospital System, The Houston Press, Telemundo, HL&P, The Houston Chronicle, Northwestern Mutual, and Habitat for Humanity. A selected list of current clients includes The Methodist Hospital, Coca Cola North America and Texas Children's Hospital.

Throughout her career, she has photographed numerous commissioned portraits and won industry awards including Communication Arts, Graphis and The Dallas Advertising Show. Ms. DiMenno has also turned her attention to personal work, creating a number of series, including Sister Companions, Between the Lanes (on art cars) and Twenty Years Since Daddy Left. Her most recent series, My Lover's Garden, is a richly colorful compilation of abstract images of plants and flowers.
